There qidian webnovel strikes again. I find that webnovel is taking up all the good novels away from other websites WHEN previously they don’t even bother translating. I HATE SPIRIT STONES JUST SO I CAN READ A FREAKING GOOD NOVEL. THE FREAKING STONES ALSO HAVE EXPIRY DATE WT*.
Well, they hold the license of original novel.. so they and the original author have the right to protest. Obviously translators don’t even create the stories. If you don’t know, we are illegally reading unofficial translations. You read for free stories that costs the author their blood, sweat, and tears. And you whine because you expect to always get everything for free? And regarding these works that misty have been worked on to be claimed by qidian, I believe that misty already realizes the risks and responsibilities since the beginning. Misty translates, but also got income from the websites and from donations, but the original author got nothing. While we easily read them for free. Dude, you have no right to complain. And btw, I think misty could discuss a deal with qidian like the other translators which novels are claimed by them. Simply the translators will work for qidian and be paid by them. It is completely legal, it is sustainable, it benefits the authors and the translators. Imo if misty wanna keep translating like this, they should pick the stories not licensed by qidian, otherwise it will keep repeating the problems, because they are very active in exercising their right.
I know I have no right to complain due to copyright and all those t &c’s and etc. BUT if i am going to pay for the translations they made there I would be more than willing if those translations are top notch and really worth they money instead of low quality translations. if it really benefits between the translators, authors and qidian, then why the translators does not want to work under them?
Because they tried to be loyal to the translation group where they worked before. The authors are in dilemma really. The best way is for translators to continue to work with qidian, but the translation community/group will get nothing (and lost their source of income), and they don’t want that, and thus try to keep translators with them. Maybe it’s like when you get headhunted by another company, they offer higher wage, but sometimes you feel like you betray your current company that let you grow if you move to the company that headhunted you.

Other than that, maybe it’s because qidian did not pay enough money for translators as well? Translators used to use patreon as well, but when the novel became premium, they can’t post their works in patreon anymore, thus only people that are supportive to the translators that are willing to donate. The only source of income from them thus from the readers with their spirit stones.

Best case scenario is that you agree to translate for them and they post your work. Worst case is that the novel dies and Qidian doesn’t ever translate it. The in-between is that they find a new translator and they start over from scratch… RIP.

translation quality at quidian tends to be on the poor side =/ I understand the original author wanting to get some benefit but this sucks.

I surprised that this is happening. A few of the novels I have read didn’t finish translating because if qidian / webnovel. Honestly, they should just leave the freelance translators alone

Very opportunistic you are, without an ounce of guilt to the authors. We all know we don’t have enough money to pay to read all the good stuffs, but the least we can do is feel guilty for the author, not become self entitled to read everything for free. We have been doing illegal things, mind you.

I read all the stories on this website. I have been trying to give up reading these web novels because it makes me so unproductive and lazy. But try as I might there are a few stories I cannot stop reading. Of which you guys translate a few. Like Insanely pampered, Mesmerising Ghost Doctor, Anarchic Consort. I live off of these stories. Each of these updates sustain me for a few days.
Hopefully you guys reach an agreement and you continue to deliver happy doses. 🙂
