Chapter 12.1: Invitation to the Prince’s Palace for a Short Stay
“Imperial Uncle, we’ve reached the Hou Manor. I’ll be going in now,”
When they reached the Hou Manor, Mu Wushuang wanted to pull her hand out from Long Moshen’s palm, and had to sound out to remind the man.
“Sure.”
Long Moshen nodded his head, his strikingly suave face looking straight and unwaveringly at her with a stoic expression.
Sure your head! Shouldn’t you let go already! ?!
Mu Wushuang rolled her eyes, suspecting whether the Imperial Uncle had fallen in love with her plump hand, or did holding her fleshy hand felt so good that he could not bear to let go? She tugged sharply this time, and finally managed to free her hand.
“I am greatly thankful to Imperial Uncle for today, but as you can see, the Hou Manor is currently a wreck, so I won’t invite you in for tea. I bid the Imperial Uncle to take care as you leave.”
Mu Wushuang said to Long Moshen upon getting out from the sedan. Seeing the man nod his head, she gave the man a wave and went inside.
But the moment she stepped in through the main doors, though she was mentally prepared, her eyelid still twitched.
The people from the second branch family had been too vicious. Except for the main doors outside that was left intact and undamaged, everything inside was charred black with walls collapsed and wreckage lay everywhere, the air thick with smoke and not a single room in the Hou Manor was liveable anymore!
All the servants were gone and there was only Uncle Fu, the doorman left in the entire Hou Manor.
Uncle Fu said when the fire started, all the servants bundled up their possessions and ran away, and even the storeroom was broken into, everything inside taken away.
Going to the storeroom to have a look, it was indeed emptied out completely, without a single copper coin left inside.
“Servants running for their lives would not be able to carry so many things away in such a short span of time.” Mu Wushuang reasoned with an icy glint in her eyes.
Mu Yuheng bit his lip and nodded in agreement.
The two siblings were thinking the same thing, that the second branch family must have sent people here to empty everything from the storeroom. The second branch family had moved out just a few days ago and they had proclaimed that they would never take a single copper from the Hou Manor, as they did not want to have anything to do with the Hou Manor from that moment on!
How is that even possible? Their Second Uncle Mu Yuande was just a fifth grade Imperial Officer and his salary would not be enough to feed the expenditure of several dozen people in the second branch family. Moreover, the second branch family kept a Spirit Master in their employ paid through tributes, would they really not want money?
Really an utterly shameless bunch!
What are they going to do now? No money, with no roof over their heads. It didn’t matter that much to her as she can sleep anywhere, but her beautiful looking brother was soft and delicate, and needed to take his medicine everyday.
“Young Miss Mu, the Prince Regent would like to invite you and Young Master Mu to the Prince’s palace for a short stay.”
At that moment, a young guard came over to Mu Wushuang to say, his gaze carrying an inquisitive and curious twinkle.
Hearing that, Mu Yuheng was the first one to furrow up his good looking brows in an outraged frown.
Mu Wushuang was a little surprised. Not from how the Imperial Uncle knew that she had nowhere to go, but was surprised thinking whether the Imperial Uncle was being a little too nice to her.
What does he hope to gain? She’s just an unattractive looking girl in this body, so he could not possibly want to acknowledge her as his future bride, but had just decided to help her in a moment of impulse. Now that the Hou Manor had been turned into such a mess, he would not be able to get anything from them.
