Chapter 72.3: Repay What You Owe, Do Heaven Right
But Mu Wushuang did not say anything to that but just merely nodded her head quietly.
Waiting till the two guards had left, Mu Wushuang then curved up the corners of her lips and whispered something to Yun Hao. Yun Hao nodded and then retreated away from the crowd of people.
The crowd gathered outside the Second Prince’s palace was growing more and more, as more than half of the people in the Imperial City had placed a bet on the young lordling, and lost every single copper of it. When they found out that people were asking for their money back from the Second Prince, everyone had naturally gone to join in, as some of them had bet quite a substantial amount and it would of course be best for them if they could get their money back.
It was a good half an hour later that the Second Prince finally opened the doors and came out in person.
The shade on his face was ugly and his eyes malevolent, looking like he had been forced to swallow a mouthful of flies.
“Quiet!”
The Second Prince hollered sternly at the crowd of people.
“This is this Prince’s personal residence and the whole lot of you here have the audacity to dare come and disturb the peace of this Prince by raising such a clamorous din! ?”
“We are not here to cause a din. We are here to ask Your Highness for our money back!”
Someone fearlessly shouted back loudly.
The Second Prince’s face turned purplish green as he scoffed indignantly: “The gambling house has its rules, what money are all of you asking for when you’ve lost! ?”
“Then why is Your Highness not paying Mu Wushuang all her money but returning her what she bet? Could it be that Your HIghness can’t afford to lose?”
“That’s right. If Mu Wushuang can take back the money she bet, then we should also get our bets returned as well!”
“Return us the money!”
“If the gambling house can’t afford to pay, then shut the place down!”
The people in the crowd broke out in shouts one after another.
The situation has elevated till people were asking for the gambling house to be shut down, which enraged the Second Prince till his heart hurt!
“Shut up!” The Second Prince hollered as he smashed the stone lion beside him into bits, his face flushed a deep red. “When did this Prince ever say that I am not paying Mu Wushuang her money?”
The gambling house cannot be allowed to shut as that was the source of his income and must never be severed no matter what. Hence, for the sake of the gambling house’s reputation, he had to show that he was abiding by the gambling house’s rules, where a win was a win, and a loss was a loss.
However, if Mu Wushuang was dead, he would just need to claim that he had paid her but would not need to take out any money, and still be able to keep the gambling house’s reputation intact.
He then continued on: “This Prince is currently moving my money in from other places and will repay Mu Wushuang before you know it. This Prince is a man of his word.”
“Your Highness, to my knowledge, all your assets would add up to be just about fifty or sixty million gold taels, but the amount you owe me comes up to two hundred million gold taels. Where are you going to find the other hundred over million gold taels to make up for the huge difference?”
Mu Wushuang’s voice carried clearly over the crowd like the wind, every single word reaching everyone’s ears.
The Second Prince’s gaze was sharp like a long sword as it fell upon the figure of Mu Wushuang.
Though she was wearing a hat with a veil and her countenance could not be seen clearly, her tall stature and well proportioned body clad in purple clothes stood straight and erect, exuding an extraordinary grace that made her stand out from the rest, a presence that was hard to ignore.
To think that a useless good for nothing could possess such a commanding presence!
