Chapter 54.3: Attending the Imperial Banquet
“The East Dawn Country’s Crown Prince is visiting, and His Majesty specially arranged for a grand banquet for him, asking for all officials of the fourth grade and above to attend with their children, including all unwed maidens, so the Young Miss here would have to attend. His Highness has however asked for you to go to the Imperial Palace together with him.”
Steward Wang said to Mu Wushuang.
Why are they getting all the unmarried women to attend the Imperial Banquet for the East Dawn Country’s Crown Prince visit? Are they seeking an alliance through marriage?
She mulled the matter over in her mind. Putting aside the Imperial Uncle’s character, she would at least have the Imperial Uncle as her shield in the Imperial Palace, which would let her avoid the many dangers in there. It must be known that the Emperor was still covetously eyeing the Tiger Talisman her Grandfather had given to her.
Mu Wushuang then nodded her head and said: “I understand. I will attend the banquet with the Imperial Uncle when it’s time.”
When evening came, she carefully dressed herself up before slowly making her way out through her door.
Right at the main doors, Liu Jiaojiao was talking to the Imperial Uncle. Liu Jiaojiao was dressed in a simple white dress, her hair flowing down her back with just one single jade hair pin accessory. Her face was pale, but exquisitely made up, and it was clear how she had purposely dolled herself up.
“Oh Sister Wushuang is here. Brother Cousin has been waiting for such a long time, what took you so long?”
When Liu Jiaojiao saw Mu Wushuang, she immediately called out with a gentle smile, but her words were admonishing, insinuating that she had taken too long.
“Attending the Imperial Banquet, one would naturally have to put on their best. But the lady cousin here does not look like you are going to attend an Imperial Banquet. You are dressed like you are going to attend a funeral instead.”
Mu Wushuang shot back with a friendly chortle.
The gentle smile on Liu Jiaojiao’s face changed, her gaze filled with venomous hatred as she glared at the young lady. She had finally just managed to get an invitation card after begging Princess Tian Xiang so hard and had purposely made herself up meticulously to give off a clean and natural look, like a frail willowy beauty in order to stand out from the rest. Never had she thought that that detestable mouth of Mu Wushuang’s would be so incorrigibly hateful! Moreover, she had not seen her only for a few days and Mu Wushuang had become slimmer again!
She hid her plump body under a heavy dark blue overcoat, the coral blue skirt worn on the inside sheer and faintly discernible, the contrasting tones making her body look a lot more svelte. But the most important point was that face of hers. How did she manage to lose all that flesh so quickly, faintly showing off facial features that could almost bring ruin to a country. If she manages to slim down completely, it would be the end of the world!
She was well known by the entire Imperial Capital to be an absolute good for nothing all this time, how could she possibly turn to become such a shy and bashful irresistible beauty?
No way! She must have taken some kind of divine medicine!
There was a type of divine medicine available in the black market that could make a person become beautiful called the Intoxicating Fleeting Bloom. Once eaten, it would allow a person to become beautiful for one whole day. However, that drug had one critical weakness. One would revert back to their original self the moment they consumed Realgar wine.
The corners of Liu Jiaojiao’s lips curled up sinisterly.
Mu Wushuang must have taken the Intoxicating Fleeting Bloom!
She must have!
