Chapter 55.1: Plot, Entrap
Steward Wang had only prepared two sedans and as Mu Wushuang did not want to sit with Liu Jiaojiao, she had to force herself upon the Imperial Uncle to share the sedan with him.
Fortunately the Imperial Uncle was very self controlled and did not set his claws on her throughout the journey, otherwise she might have sent him flying out of the sedan with one good kick.
She thought to herself while in the sedan, that she had better slim down quickly, to avoid causing the Imperial Uncle with his unique taste to lose his self restraint.
“Third Sis!”
They had just reached the Imperial Palace’s main gates when she heard someone calling affectionately out to her. She did not even have to turn and look to know that it was the fake and pretentious Mu Ningxue. She had almost forgotten that her grandfather was a marquis above the fourth grade rank, so the sisters Mu Ningxue and Mu Ningwei were able to attend the Imperial Banquet as well. But, hadn’t the branch family severed all ties with the Hou Manor completely, so they should have the right to come attend the banquet now.
“Third Sis, what are you doing here? Come down quickly. We’re both the Hou Manor’s people and we should enter the Imperial Palace together.”
Mu Ningxue said affectionately to her outside the palace gates.
“That’s right Third Sis, we’re one family, so hurry on out so we can be together.” Mu Ningwei piped in earnestly.
“Who are you people to me? I remember very clearly that the branch family has cut off all ties completely with the Hou Manor, so don’t go calling me Third Sis here, Third Sis there, trying to make it seem as if you are affiliated with the Hou Manor in any way! Oh right, your father is merely a fifth grade ranked official. This Imperial Banquet is reserved only for officials of the fourth grade rank and above and their families to attend, so why have you two come here for at all! ?”
Mu Wushuang could not even be bothered to draw the curtain open but just scoffed at them from inside the carriage.
“Third Sis, how can you speak in such a manner? Our family severed ties with the Hou Manor only because we fell for the lies told to us by Mu Ningxuan and her birth mother, and we had nothing to do with that at all. So you cannot hold those words said in the past against us can you? We are all one family so is there a need for you to even spout such callous and cold hearted words at all?”
Mu Ningxue lamented sadly as she held her hanky to her mouth.
There were quite a number of other nobles around them and when they saw that scene, their faces creased up in contempt as they stared towards the direction Mu Wushuang was at.
Mu Wushuang really couldn’t be bothered with wasting her breath on those people and she went on to say in a lazy voice: “Imperial Uncle, there are too many flies in this area. Let us go.”
The Imperial Uncle was the Prince Regent whose authourity stood above all and only beneath one man, and there were many special privileges extended to him. For example, his sedan was allowed to go directly inside the Imperial Palace, but not for other people. They had to alight from their sedans outside the gates and walk their way in from there.
“Alright.”
Long Moshen closed his eyes and nodded his head nonchalantly.
Hence, that one and only sedan was then slowly carried through the gates of the Imperial Palace under the countless pairs of eyes.
