Chapter 81.1: Why Is She Not Dead?

 

The Emperor actually issued an Imperial Edict so early in the morning to have her attend the Grand Floral Banquet!

The corners of Mu Wushuang’s mouth curled up in an icy smile.

When the Emperor issued a decree yesterday that asked them to move back into the Hou Manor earlier, she already knew that the Emperor was on the Second Prince’s side. Afterall, the Second Prince was the Emperor’s personal mini gold mine.

If the Emperor does not stand up for the Second Prince, the Second Prince would surely be bankrupted as he would not be able to fork out that two hundred million gold taels. But the Second Prince’s assets like the gambling house and the merchant shops he held would still fetch a good fifty or sixty million gold taels easily, and the Second Prince’s money could be considered to be the Emperor’s money as well. You want the Emperor to give up that fifty to sixty million gold taels just like that? That’s not possible at all!

Weighing the consequences, it was not hard for him to decide.

“Sis!” Mu Yuheng tugged at Mu Wushuang’s sleeve anxiously. It was clear that he understood the implications as well. The Emperor’s summons for her to go into the palace could not be for anything good!

But it was a summons by an Imperial Edict and defying the decree was a crime that calls for death by beheading, so no matter whether she attends the banquet or not, it was death for her either way.  

But Mu Wushuang was a little puzzled. Is the Second Prince feeling like a cornered dog and was trying to jump the wall? Otherwise, there was still two days left and he could very well still send his assassins many more times rather than have the Emperor think that he was incompetent, isn’t it?

And the Emperor does indeed consider the Second Prince to be incompetent.

Before morning court had even convened that day, this second elder brother of his had come to seek an audience anxiously, asking that he sentence Mu Wushuang and her younger brother to death. The Second Prince was at his wits end and had no other choice before he finally came to see him. But he was the Emperor and he could not just kill people as he pleased, so he thought that it was best that the Second Prince go find people to kill Mu Wushuang and her sibling and he would then step in to sort out the aftermath.

But his second elder brother quickly broke down in tears and was almost seemingly on the verge of collapsing, claiming that he could not find anyone that was able to assassinate Mu Wushuang and her younger brother. Anyone who accepted the mission had been killed and their dead corpses dumped at the Second Prince’s palace, causing many organizations to refuse to meet with his people. It was now more difficult to kill the two siblings than for him to ascend his way to Heaven.

The Emperor just could not understand why it was so difficult to kill Mu Wushuang and her younger brother, two people of such low significance. Maybe this second elder brother of his was really just too incompetent.

But it was also possible that Long Moshen was protecting them.

Hence, in order to prevent future nightmares, he issued a decree to summon Mu Wushuang into the Imperial Palace.

However long Long Moshen’s reach was, could it possibly extend all the way into the Imperial Palace?

In the few years after he ascended to the throne, he had secretly cleaned up the different factions of power within the palace a few times, and he did not believe that Long Moshen’s powers were really that far reaching.
